It must be getting closer to November...

Having two kids involved in 2 sports each (plus being coach and on the Board) has limited my amount of free time as of late. In fact, it's been non-existent. That said, I've noticed that in the past couple of weeks two candidates have already expressed an interest in running for City Council - Jay Bunting and Rob Bell. To date, Scott Adams and Jason Grimm (the incumbents) have not yet announced their intentions for November. All I can say is that it will likely be an interesting race (I am glad I am not up for re-election). As the primary (which I am assuming will be necessary) and general election draw nearer, I will provide my input on the candidates and identify which candidate(s) I will be supporting. Stay tuned…I feel it is going to be interesting….

November can't come soon enough ... said...

Hi Jamie,
I heard something very disturbing last night that I hope isn't true. Captain Miller is now eligible to run for Police Chief but Adams and his two cronies wouldn't even consider him as a candidate? And they're trying to structure the position as a contracted position rather than "at will" so a fresh council next year can't replace their predetermined candidate? You know, kindof like what they did to our former police chief and city administrator?

What you heard is true. Since Mike made his canidacy public, I can say he was not given the opportunity to be interviewed. I have also heard rumors that a contract is going to be used, but know nothing for certain. We did look at this for the adminstractor, but currently no other department head is under contract.

Word is Captain Miller's resume did not include completion of a MA degree, thus did not meet criteria for the position.

Ironic for so many reasons....

- current assistant administrator is sporting a 2-year degree and was just given $25,000 (tax payer money) to complete her BA on line and on city time.

- 2 of the 3 council dissenters are without a college degree, yet feel more than capable of running the city.

- In a recommendation by the interim administrator, which was furthered by Mayor Przybilla, it is critical for a city to invest in its talent to promote a healthy future.

- does the current city staff meet these same educational criteria?

Lastly- how about a real vote once? I see 4 people voting and a 5th looking at other council members to make sure he's doing as scripted. Is it really fair to a city that two council members should get a "give-me" vote? Hey odd-man out, have some pride in yourself and respect the office bestowed upon you. The citizens deserve a real democracy, not a 2-man dictatorship.
